If you flipped through my parents' old photo albums, you would find my mom in her standard outfit of slim-fit leggings, jeans, or other pants, a slightly oversized top, a blazer or tailored coat, a statement watch, and a classic and functional handbag.
That would accurately describe my standard outfit or fall uniform, if you swapped the handbag with a pair of boots or booties. I'm not sure if I've subconsciously emulated her style (she worked in fashion for a time) or if I've held on to the way she dressed my sister and me when we were younger; but it sure is comfortable!
If you've followed affecionada for a bit, you'll know that ultimately, I'm a dress girl. (If you haven't, browse through my spring and summer style posts and you'll see!) While I love a good sweater dress in the winter, during the transitional months in the fall, I prefer to wear leggings and a flowy top as a base for layering -- you can throw on a blanket scarf like this one I picked up recently (on sale and similar to the one featured in this post), layer a knit (like the ones featured here, here, here, or here) vest, or blazer over, add some jewelry, and be out the door in no time!
This plaid top by Goodnight Macaroon is crazy soft and still fitted for a casual-fit piece. There are button tabs on the arms for rolling up the sleeves. I love the navy and red print and how the front pockets are placed slightly lower than usual for a button-down shirt. For a dressier option, you could go with the flouncy top featured in this post.
Regarding the leggings are not pants debacle, here are my two cents -- if the leggings are opaque and the top is long enough. These leggings by Vince Camuto are so thick and flattering that they may as well be pants! ;-)
I wore this fall uniform on our day off to the grocery store and to our polling location. As you're reading this, we'll have elected our next president; at the moment, I am anxiously awaiting the results!
Hope you're having a nice week! I'm already looking forward to our long weekend! x
