Gift Guide for the Anxious Person

Gift Guide for the Anxious Person | affecionada

Only five more sleeps until Christmas! As you're reading this, I am in the deep south spending time with my family for the holiday. Four more sleeps until A joins us! This was the first time in quite some time that I had to travel alone--I used to often, and enjoyed it, but I've become used to traveling together, so this trip brought on some anxiety. (That, and unexpectedly long queues, a delayed departure, a cancelled connecting flight, running through the concourses at ATL to rebook, rough weather...)

It's not uncommon for bloggers to share that they have anxiety--for me, blogging is a reprieve, and so it makes sense that anxious people would blog. With my recent trip and the holiday as inspiration, I thought I'd do a different type of gift guide, one for the anxious person (or, gifts I would love to receive as a person with anxiety).

Aromatherapy

Lavender and sandalwood in candle, spray, or bath and body form. Spritzing my pillows (read: dousing my bed) with pillow spray each night is one of my favorite calming rituals. This Works released this Sleep Together Kit, value for money at under $50 for two full-sized products (their Deep Sleep Pillow Spray and Deep Sleep Breathe In roll-on). Lavender, vetivert, and wild camomile, oh my! The Breathe In is particularly good for travel--roll on to your pressure points in the airport or on the aircraft, breathe in, and breathe out. I ordered the kit and repurchased my favorite daytime moisturizer from Net-a-Porter and they arrived beautifully packaged.

For an olfactory and skin-nourishing experience while soaking in the bath, L'Occitane's Cleansing and Softening Shower Oil with Almond Oil and LUSH's seasonal Rose Jam are light and sweet. And really, any of LUSH's bath products would do to relieve anxiousness with their vibrant colors and bomb effects. Laura Mercier's Honey Bath is another fun experience--use the honey stick to twirl the emulsion into your bath. Follow up by slathering on some Souffle Body Creme once you've stepped out and dried off.

Cosy up

Pajama sets make great gifts and are comfortable and cosy for relaxing in at home. The plaid one pictured is last winter season Victoria's Secret, but Adore Me make equally cute and soft options such as this long-sleeved set with piping detail and this short-sleeved version. Reviews indicate that the long-sleeved set runs short, which is good news for fellow petites! Currently, they're running a promotion of one set for $24.95, which is such a deal!

There is nothing quite like sipping on a warm beverage to calm nerves, especially this time of year. A and I each picked up a Thermos earlier this year to bring to work in the mornings and it has been a game-changer. It keeps your drink piping hot for hours upon hours--I left some tea in it overnight and it poured out steaming the next morning! I also bring a Swell bottle for a cold beverage and double the hydration, though both can be used interchangeably. We even use them at home. Snuggle into your pajamas after a long bath and pour yourself a hot drink!
