We started our self-guided tour at the house. The porch wrapped around it, rocking chairs served as outdoor seating, and the front entrance overlooked greenery and the water. I felt like I was in The Notebook!
We were enchanted by this den of books. The glass cases were filled with antique collections of authors' works. I was happy to find my favorite, Pride and Prejudice, amongst them.
Baskets for picnics in the garden.
A couple of the green animals.
And then we wandered into the garden. A long and tall row of shaped hedges led us into the heart of the garden, where an elephant and a giraffe stood surrounded by flowers and other greenery. The row of hedges especially gave that Alice in Wonderland feel - I may have looked for white roses to paint red.
It was such a beautiful day and setting that I didn't mind the bees, and spent some time trying to capture photos of the butterflies.
I wanted to sit on the throne next to the pineapple, but refrained.
These arches of pink flowers were the perfect setting for outfit photos - those to come!
This little guy was my favorite.
Many of the flowers were in full bloom, though some were still budding.
The scene as we left.
It was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon - I recommend heading over towards closing time (the house closes at 5 and the garden at 6) as we had the estate essentially to ourselves!
