Can't believe the weekend has already come and gone! I mentioned in this post that my parents were coming up to visit, and we dropped them off at the airport before sunrise this morning. The first full day of their visit, we woke early and headed down to the Cliff Walk in Newport.
The Cliff Walk is a special place for me. I discovered it halfway through my first year of teaching -- a time when I sublimated myself into my work, only starting to allow myself to make friends in this new and strange state of Rhode Island. It was my first time exploring the state on my own, outside of my cozy attic apartment and the school where I worked. It was chilly out as we were just transitioning into spring. I remember the rush I felt while crossing the gorgeous Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge; I still feel that rush every time I cross it and marvel at the sights on either side.
I bring all of my family and friends who come to visit to the Cliff Walk. Some have been more than once! I was happy to finally be able to share it with my parents.
After trekking a good chunk, we had a delicious seafood meal at my favorite, Anthony's Seafood -- lobster rolls, fresh oysters and clams, oh my! Full with good food, hydrated, and rested, we headed to the Newport mansions to see The Breakers.
This pink gingham dress is a new acquisition that I picked up on sale along with this red bow-back holiday dress. I'm happy to report that it's well made and of a thicker material than I had anticipated, and still under $50! I discovered the Lauren James brand when my sister messaged me a photo of this dress she spotted in a department store in a robin's egg blue shade that was so my style -- she was right! I adore the variations of Southern belle/New England prep oxford and seersucker dresses. This is a similar option to my pink gingham dress and this is the same dress in a seersucker material. I also love this option!
More on The Breakers in my next post! x
